Festival Season Begins Along the German Wine Street

21-March-2025

Surprisingly, in this vineyard-growing area, it’s not the grapes that kick off the season of merry-making.  Rather, it’s the more than 2,000 blooming almond trees!  A canopy of pink and white blossoms lines the paths along the German Wine Street.

The Romans really loved – and still do - delicious things, and they are the ones who more than 1000 years ago not only brought grapevines to this region of Germany, but also almond trees.  The nearby Pfalz forest creates a unique micro-climate by shielding the almond trees and grapevines from cold, northern winds.

The picturesque wine village of Gimmeldingen hosts the popular Almond Blossom Festival every spring, and it begins this weekend, 21-March-2025.

The days are filled with the colors of pink and white blossoms; at night, wine cellars are illuminated in pink as the wine makers serve up glasses of the region’s rosé, a pink wine.

If you are someone who loves delicious food and a refreshing glass of wine, if you love being outside and celebrating nature’s beauty, this is the region for you!

The German Wine Street festival season runs from March through late November, and our Villages and Vineyards bicycle tours coincide with the delights of these festivals!

Below is a link to a video that shows just how beautiful the region is during the almond blossom festival.  Imagine bicycling here with us!
